We created a series of realistic websites with built-in security holes and let the user accomplish the objectives of the mission. The hacking challenges we are playing today are much more dynamic and involve intrusion into actual servers with a variety of configurations. Several 'boxes' are part of the competition and the object is to gain control of the box, mark your territory, and defend it from other hackers. We have written a series of scoring scripts which keeps track of who controls which box. These scripts compose the Root This Box competition.
